Christmas Eve

I know, it's a little late. We celebrated Christmas Eve in Lacey with my grandparents, aunts, uncle, and cousins.

Friday Ice Day

Today was a little better than yesterday. We still have power, despite the numerous outages around us. Later in the day we had internet and cell coverage. We, unfortunately, no longer have the three trees on the side of our house. My mom is pretty upset about it. The birds loved eating the berries in these trees, the hummingbirds hung around them in summer, and the trees provided some privacy. We were all hoping the neighbor's big leaf maple would fall down, so we could have a clear view of Mt. Rainier year round, but things don't seem to work out like that. Heavy winds are expected this week, and our power is flickering, so there's still a chance for more downed trees and power outages.

Throughout the day, the ice started melting slowly and began falling off the trees. This was just as dangerous as the falling branches. It also started raining. We did get a chance to go out and have one last round of fun in the snow while it's still here.

Thursday Ice Day

Thursday is the day the weather took a turn for the worst. Conditions were downright scary. It stopped raining, but everything froze and trees got too heavy. Mom and dad spent a couple hours outside cleaning up tree branches that had fallen in the road. Our driveway was a sheet of ice. We, eventually, went out for a short walk to the park, but the sound of crashing tree limbs was unnerving and it was very, very cold out. To make matters worse, it started snowing again. Dad tried to go to work, but one of the main roads out of our neighborhood was closed and the other is very steep and there were accidents along it and the power was out. There were power outages all around us. We had power, but no internet or phone service.

Remember the tree all the robins were in? The top of it is in the road.

yup, that's a package from USPS at our door. Mom had to yell at the postman as he was about to walk up our driveway. No, Mr. Postman, you will not kill yourself on our driveway.
